Intro to Radio & Podcasting (Wipro x The King's Trust, London 2025)

The Gaydio Academy, in partnership with Wipro and The King’s Trust, delivered radio skills training alongside peer support and mentoring, giving participants their first steps into radio and a broader insight into the industry.

Participants went on to create content for Pride Month, which they were able to take away and use to support future volunteering roles and work experience opportunities. Throughout the programme, participants were supported to see themselves as part of the industry, benefiting from one-to-one guidance, mentoring and access to volunteering opportunities.

Podcasts

The end goal of the week was for participants to work in groups to create a podcast they could take away with them. The conversations were thoughtful and wide-ranging, with participants sharing personal perspectives on topics from Late Night London to Music. Below are a select couple of podcasts:

Case Study - Christel

When she joined The King’s Trust Get Started with Radio programme, she was feeling burnt out and unsure of her direction. Although she had completed both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in animation,      the competitive nature of the creative industry had left her disconnected from the joy she once felt. Working as a 3D Generalist and applying for roles that did not match her passions only added to her uncertainty. Christel wanted purpose again, and a way to feel excited about creativity on her own terms.

From the very first day of the programme, something changed. She loved the course and felt inspired again, enough to go home and proudly share her experience with friends. Christel noted that the social media masterclass was a particular turning point for her – it showed her that she could contribute to creative conversations online and build a space where her ideas mattered. This encouraged her to explore the idea of creating an art journalism podcast to discuss the conversations and conflicts shaping the art world.

As the programme continued, her confidence grew. She began to reconnect with the curiosity and wonder she had been missing. She realised that being part of the creative sector did not always mean producing work commercially. It could also mean engaging with culture, sharing ideas and using her voice to shape conversations. With her strengths as a people person, she started to imagine new pathways in creative environments that felt more aligned with who she is.

Since completing the course, she has secured a job at Waitrose. This has given her stability while allowing creativity to remain something she enjoys and nurtures outside of work. She has started visiting exhibitions again and has begun planning and scripting ideas for her podcast. She is also exploring support from a King’s Trust mentor with creative experience to help her continue building confidence and direction.
For her, the most meaningful outcome of the programme was rediscovering inspiration. The course helped her reconnect with creativity in a way that feels hopeful, energising and true to her, and that sense of renewed purpose is now guiding her next steps.
