Meet the people
behind the Academy
Lee Barnes
Lee heads up the Academy, bringing 20 years of radio presenting experience with him. He began in hospital radio, went on to work for brands such as Capital, and eventually found his way to Gaydio. He presents shows nationally and has his own worldwide podcast. If you turn on your radio, it will probably be him!
Craig Cunningham
Craig is Gaydio's Multimedia Journalist, covering the biggest stories from across the UK and around the world. Alongside his reporting, he trains Academy participants in broadcast journalism, interviewing and digital storytelling, helping the next generation of media professionals build their skills and confidence.
Emma Goswell
Award-winning radio presenter and podcaster with over 25 years' experience. Emma co-presented the breakfast show on Gaydio for 5 years between 2013 and 2018 and again in 2020. She is also the host of 'Coming Out Stories', an LGBTQ+ podcast that's been going over 7 years.
Steve Joyce
Steve's role is to raise the funds so that all Gaydio Academy's courses and projects are free to participants. He has over 30 years' fundraising experience across charities in cancer research, landmine clearance and adoption support.
Daniel Crompton
Daniel is a third year filmmaking student who works at Gaydio part-time, doing a bit of everything. Some of he's time is spent in Excel sheets processing and chasing invoices. The rest is spent taking promotional photos and videos. He might also be writing scripts, editing or working on anything that comes their way. He has recently joined Gaydio Academy as an Assistant to help support its continued growth.
